James Arthur Zito, the 22-year-old Millersville man who allegedly stabbed his mother and then fled the home, will go to trial on Tuesday.

According to an online case search, Zito's criminal trial is set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court in Annapolis. He is charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment, arson threat and having a dangerous weapon with the intent to injure.

On July 30, police responded to a family violence call in the 700 block of Stacy Oak Way where a 54-year-old woman was suffering from multiple stab wounds.

According to police, a preliminary investigation indicated that Zito suddenly became violent for unknown reasons and restrained two family members inside the home before later stabbing his mother multiple times in the upper body. He then fled.
